Biography

Millimetrik is Quebec City born/based Pascal Asselin. Created in 2000 as a side project of his bands Below the Sea and Glider, Millimetrik finds Pascal recording his own brand of ambient electronic and acoustic music.

Based on samples, virtual keyboards, field recordings and various beats, the result is always soft and minimal, at times reminiscent of a movie score.

Coming from a 'rock' background, pieces are structured like songs, rather than being built as modern electronic composers might do: Pascal always lets his feelings into the music from the moment he begins work on his tracks.

Millimetrik also takes influence from recent collaborations with Sylvain Chauveau, Yellow6 and DJ More. Pascal utilises DIY working methods, thus allowing him to follow many different paths with Millimetrik's music.

For live performances, Millimetrik's sound is based around laptop and sampler.

Past live gigs included a couple of times in Europe and Mutek festival in Montreal. His concert at the Rhâââ Lovely will be part of his second European tour.

Quartier Libre's point of view :
Variety Is the Spice of Life est le premier album solo, fort attendu, du très productif Pascal Asselin de Québec (Below The Sea, Glider).

Igloomag's point of view about one of his live performances :
Pascal Asselin's (aka Millimetrik) deep-dark drone opened up a big wall of waves that glistened with a quieter reverb. Billowing like fly memories it carried an emotional weight like an indirect dream beat of bass sonics.
His key element here was a slow simmering distance pushing the frontline softly away and capturing your interest in the sketches being created in the background noise. It was something of an invisible, semi-penetrable mirrored wall of eerie exclusion. While he played the room physically vibrated as he added shuffle rhythm tracks that were smack center of this cranking digistorm vortex.
While crossing the lines of Dead Voices on Air, Millimetrik crossed the lines with a bit of what you might perceptibly hear on the Touch label (even if slightly derivative). The performance had a blazing impact, a midday mind meld body wrap.
