7th Apr. - Balmorhea + Nils Frahm @ Cellule 133a (Brussels)

Beware, the concert is soldout!

Nils Frahm (d) _ 20h30

Founder of the Durton Studio in Berlin and the label AtelierMusik, German musician Nils Frahm rose to notoriety in just two albums, "Wintermusik" and "The Bells," among the blue chips of minimalist "neo-classic" composers of Old Europe alongside Hauschka, Johann Johannsson, Max Richter and his prolific friend and partner Peter Broderick (he's American but gets deep Danish roots now!). Solo on stage, mastering his grand piano, Nils Frahm removes all emphasis, all demonstration from his music which must be taken in its most intuitive, introspective way, and is the seat of opposite tensions, of fighting feelings without possible reduction. We finally understand that it is precisely this inconsolable part he puts into music that forges his works. Such a skin-deep melancholy allows the listener to use the uneasy word of "happiness".

Balmorhea (us) _ 21h30

"Coming from Austin, Texas, Balmorhea (pronounce Bal-more-ay) is a instrumental collective built around the core duo of Rob Lowe (guitar, piano, melodica) and Michael Muller (guitar, banjo). The combo delivers a bright and delightful music at the crossroads of folk, neo-classical and post-rock genres, where intimacy and sublimation occur. Between the sweetness of breath and feverish blaze, their music is free; Balmorhea has unplugged the amps to better contemplate instant, mind, body and heart. The influences are explicit, well-assumed: Rachel's, Arvo Pärt, John Cage, Debussy or Gillian Welch! On April 7, the Texans will present their splendid fourth album, "Constellations," released this year on the pretty inspired Western Vinyl label (Dirty Projectors, Bexar Bexar, Slow Six, etc..)."
