Biography

Deriving their name from an Eddic poem (the line translates as 'Enjoy Eternal Bliss' - hence the title of their debut release), Yndi Halda originally formed in school. The band is comprised of members Jack Lambert (guitar), Brendan Grieve (bass), Daniel Neal (violin), Oliver Newton (drums, tambourine) and James Vella (guitar, glockenspiel, lapsteel, piano, banjo and vocals). Yndi Halda cites influences such as Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, and Nick Drake, so it's clear that they have an appreciation of those who have traveled the path before them.

Their first release unfolds through four tracks that clock in at a little more than an hour. This is expansive, epic instrumental music with varied sections and movements that rise to crescendo out of subtle, gentle ambience. Melodies ebb and flow, rising to beautiful explosions. It's the kind of music which could soundtrack a modern day love story as easily as it could a mid-century war. A barrage of instrumentation is woven together to form the fabric of this effort, with soaring violins and whispering glockenspiels, melodies of clarinets and banjos, and driving guitars and bass supported by a military-styled percussion sound. With one beautiful soundscape after another, yndi halda create something bigger than an emotional rollercoaster, it's more like a full-on mountain assault through thick blizzards and incredible sunshine.

As Decoy says, "there is something untangible about Enjoy Eternal Bliss, something that evades the analytical eye but is looming over the album. Perhaps a mysticism of sorts that enchants the band's music much in the way that Sigur Ros just seems to transcend the normal limitations of music in the creation of otherworldly songs." Undoubtfully one of the highlights of this year's edition!

Some words about it:

Decoymusic.com
Transcends the normal limitations of music... A beautiful portrait of unfathomable radiance.

Rock Sound
The bleakest, most beautiful snowstorm lit up by a red, rising sun over the rolling hills of a post-apocalyptic English countryside.

Drowned In Sound
Itís the hottest day of the year both outside and in this sweltering room, but my arms are alive with gooseflesh... Yndi Haldaís music already feels like an old friend, a drug thatís been coursing through these veins for years; that they're already greatly impressive is a fact humbled, rather, by the obvious certainty that they've the potential to one day be peerless.

UK Experimental Bands
Simply jawdropping... Noise swept beauty... Artist of the week.

Realife Radio
Remember that time you listened to that Sigur Růs song and it reminded you of your saddest memory ever?... Amazing... The whole thing is just dripping with emotion.
